How it works

Which folder are you keeping?
Copies inside it are the ones that stay. Nothing in it is ever offered for removal. If a folder is a backup you keep on purpose, say so and Vaulith leaves it alone.
Compare
What is actually the same file?
Vaulith reads both folders on your machine and matches files by their contents, not their names. A copy is only ever offered when the same content is already in the folder you are keeping.
Decide
What moves, and what stays?
Every row names the copy that would move and the copy that stays. You approve the list. Approved copies go to Quarantine, then to your Trash when you choose, and can be restored at either step.

Vaulith never removes these: the contents differ, so only you know which one you want.
Only in the old folder
Files that exist only there. Removing the copies above does not touch them, and Vaulith does not move them for you.
Not offered for removal
A copy that looks like a sensitive document is never offered. Neither is a file stored in the cloud rather than on this disk, a copy inside a folder you marked as a backup, or anything inside an app, a photo library or a version-controlled project.

What it does not do
The honest edges.
Vaulith does not merge your folders for you. It does not move the files that are only in the old folder, and it does not rename anything. Deciding what to keep is the part it helps with; rearranging your filing is not.
It matches files by their contents. Two documents that look similar but are not identical are not treated as copies, and photos that merely resemble each other are not part of this comparison.
Removing a copy that shares storage with the copy that stays frees almost nothing, and Vaulith says so on the row rather than counting it as space.
What you keep control of
Nothing is deleted outright.
Approved copies move to Quarantine first, then to your OS Trash when you choose, and can be restored at either step. Space is freed when you empty the Trash, not before, and the app says that too.
Every move is written to a log on your device. A move to the Trash is recorded before the file is handed over, because after that the app no longer controls it. A move to Quarantine is recorded immediately after, carrying the name the copy was given. The log keeps the two most recent stretches of history rather than everything forever, and a write that fails warns instead of stopping the move, because refusing to free space on a full disk would break the app at the moment you need it.
Everything here runs on your machine. Signed out, a scan opens no network connection, and you can watch that yourself in 60 seconds.
